Adrian boys split at Joseph tourney

Saturday: Adrian 60, Helix 35 — Blake Purnell scored a season-high 26 points to lead the Adrian High School boys’ basketball team to a consolation game victory in the Joseph Tournament.
Purnell had six assists and four steals. Bryan Reay (12 points) and David Stones (10) also reached double figures in scoring, with Stones notching five rebounds and a team-high six steals.
Riley Sederberg scored nine for Helix.

Friday: Joseph 41, Adrian 39 — In the opening round of the tournament, the host Eagles outscored Adrian by two points in the fourth quarter to win a game in which the Antelopes struggled from the foul line.
Adrian converted only five of 14 free-throw chances. Joseph was 4-for-8.
Reay registered 12 points and 11 rebounds for Adrian. He also blocked four shots. Purnell scored a co-game-high 14 points, equaling the output of Joseph’s Ian Baynes.
