Homedale, Adrian wrestle as one in Baker

Trojans’ Abels rallies from big deficit — A combined team of wrestlers from Homedale and Adrian high schools competed in a dual meet tournament Saturday in Oregon.
Homedale’s Todd Bahem (119 pounds, Ismahel Mendoza (160) and Kyle Abels (285) were awarded first-place medals at the Baker Invitational after finishing the day unbeaten in three matches each in Baker City, Ore.
Abels rallied from a large deficit to record a pin in one of his matches. Earlier in the week at the Catfish Duals in Nyssa, Ore., Abels spotted Parma heavyweight Angel Hernandez a 10-0 lead a before ending the match with a pinfall in the third round. Hernandez outweighed Abels by 70 pounds, according to HHS coach Toby Johnson.
“It does say something about him,” Johnson said of Abels’ comeback ability. “He doesn’t give up.”
