Homedale searches for new volleyball coach

Trustees vote 3-2 against renewing Hann's contract — David Hann’s three-year stint as Homedale High School volleyball coach has come to an end.
With chair Kurt Shanley casting the deciding vote, school trustees refused to re-issue Hann’s contract during last week’s monthly meeting.
Superintendent Tim Rosandick said that no reason for the decision was given when the vote came in an open meeting. An executive session was held prior to the decision.
Trustees Kevin Miyasako and Tim Quintana voted to retain Hann as volleyball coach; Shanley, Shane Muir and Todd Kelly voted to end his tenure during the Dec. 14 meeting.
Hann said the vote came as “a bit of a surprise”.
“It’s a mixed bag of emotions,” Hann said. “A few weeks ago, I found out that my peers voted me district coach of the year; with many positive comments on the improvements our varsity team had made with our different strengths and weaknesses.
The Trojans’ other three fall varsity sports coaches — Matt Holtry (football), David Correa (girls’ soccer) and Oscar Arguello (boys’ soccer) — were retained for 2010. Shelley Shenk and Jolene Maxwell also were given junior varsity softball coaching contracts.
Middle school volleyball coaches Wayne Skeen and Shannon Johnson tendered their resignations, according to Rosandick. He praised Johnson for coming into a situation late to coach one of the teams.
